Barge 225

Barge 225: Cleveland Metroparks Future Floating Education Center

In 2023, Cleveland Metroparks acquired an 8,800-square-foot barge with a bold goal: to transform it into a first-of-its-kind floating education center on Lake Erie. Moored at Wildwood Marina, Barge 225 will become a permanent, year-round hub for environmental education, offering free STEM programming focused on Lake Erie ecology, water stewardship and the natural sciences. Once complete, the facility will serve school-aged youth from across the region, with an emphasis on reaching nearby Cleveland and Euclid neighborhoods through year-round, hands-on learning experiences.

To bring this vision to life, our Planning & Design, Outdoor Experiences and Park Operations teams have been working together on every aspect of the project, from mooring and restoration to exhibit planning and educational design. The result will be a dynamic, community-focused facility unlike anything else on the water. Take an inside look at how the transformation of Barge 225 is taking shape — including some great visuals — in this brief video:

Your tax-deductible gift today will directly support the transformation of Barge 225 and help bring this one-of-a-kind floraing education center to life for the next generation of environmental stewards.
