John made so many wonderful memories in the Metroparks.

As a young boy, he enjoyed riding his bicycle on the many trails. He played baseball for many years, both as a youth and an adult, and learned to play golf on several of Cleveland Metroparks courses.

John began powerwalking for health reasons, later slowing his pace so he could enjoy the scenery. That way, he could move the Woolly Bears he found on the trails to a safer place in the grass.

He also enjoyed driving through the Metroparks as part of his daily routine, relaxing and admiring the beauty of the changing seasons. “It’s heaven on earth,” as he would describe it.

His tree will represent the natural beauty for everyone to enjoy.

John's Tulip tree was planted in November 2025 at Memorial Field in Rocky River Reservation.
