Cleveland Metroparks gratefully acknowledges the family of Janel Nemec for their support of the Legacy Fund. This gift supports reforestation in Cleveland Metroparks now and in the future.
Janel Nemec was a native Clevelander and lived in Euclid and Cleveland Heights. Growing up in Cleveland during the 1950s and 60s, she and her two brothers regularly visited and enjoyed outings in many Cleveland Metropolitan Parks, including (as they were then known): Chagrin River, Euclid Creek, and Rocky River. Janel attended college, became a registered nurse, and worked at the Cleveland Clinic. In 1988, she left the Cleveland area as part of the advance clinical team that founded and staffed the Cleveland Clinic in Florida. While Florida became her home, her roots remained in Cleveland.
For her Cleveland area family, her family in Florida and her family in the Washington DC area who visit Cleveland regularly, the Legacy Tree is a Cleveland memorial to her, keeping her in our hearts.
Janel's Black Gum tree will be planted in the fall of 2026 near Codrington Shelter in Bradley Woods Reservation.
