Best Summer Night Hikes in Cleveland Metroparks

Wolf Picnic Shelter to Lake Erie, Huntington Reservation

Start your hike at the Wolf Picnic parking lot and follow the all-purpose trail to the beach. You can dip your toes in Lake Erie or get some Honey Hut ice cream at The Noshery before heading back.

My Mountain Trail, Brecksville Reservation

Enjoy this shady hike and catch a cool breeze at the observation overlook. This trail makes up a portion of the Buckeye Trail and connects to the Oak Grove Picnic Area and Plateau Picnic Area.

Henry Church Jr. Rock Loop, South Chagrin Reservation

One of the darkest spots in Cleveland Metroparks, take the paved portion of this trail as it passes through a deep hemlock forest illuminated with fireflies and enjoy the soothing sounds of waterfalls as you hike.

Museum Trail, North Chagrin Reservation 

Keep an ear out for owls as you hike through A. B. Williams Memorial Woods. The flat, easy trail leads to the site of the old Trailside Museum and is a perfect way to dip your toes into hiking at night.

All Purpose Trail, Rocky River Reservation              

Pick up the All Purpose Trail at South Mastick Picnic Area and follow the signs to learn about the planets in our solar system. Walk back the same way, or duck into the woods and return via the Bridle Trail while enjoying the sound of the river and nighttime insects.

Skyline Overlook, West Creek Reservation  

Starting at the Keystone Shelter parking lot, enjoy a walk under the cool canopy of the mixed maple forest up to the scenic overlook. Once there, you can marvel at city lights of Cleveland's skyline!

Castle Valley Trail, North Chagrin Reservation

This wide out-and-back trail runs alongside the bridle trail, making it simple to find your way, even in the dark! Park at Strawberry Picnic Area and then start your 2.25 mile trek one way to Squire's Castle. Enjoy the magic of the castle at night before returning.

Astorhurst Picnic Area, Bedford Reservation

The trails from the Astorhurst Picnic Area are paved and make several loops around this section of Bedford Reservation. On a walk in the fading light, you'll be serenaded by singing insects and the sounds of Tinker's Creek. Head up the hill to the upper section to enjoy scenic views.

Upper Edgewater, Lakefront Reservation

The views from Upper Edgewater, over the lake and spanning the Cleveland skyline are stunning as the sun sets. You can find a bench and soak in the beauty or follow the trail down the hill to the beach and back to enjoy an invigorating walk.

Beyer's Pond, Big Creek Reservation

As night falls, Beyer’s Pond stirs with life. Follow the 0.7-mile loop to the boardwalk and listen for gray tree frogs and the calls of barred owls. Pause at the benches to watch for wildlife emerging at twilight, revealing the hidden gems of the pond.
