Rocky River Nature Center Shoreline Protection

Rocky River Nature Center Shoreline Protection

About

The Rocky River Nature Center Shoreline Protection project in Rocky River Reservation will provide bank stabilization along the Rocky River to protect the existing nature center and its viewing deck. The project will include the construction of a new armor stone revetment and three curved stone weirs at the base of the Rocky River Nature Center overlook to protect the bluff from further erosion and undercutting.

An adjacent section of the river will also be dredged to encourage water to flow away from the bluff. The dredged material will be reused as earth fill between the weirs and planted with riparian vegetation to further stabilize the toe of the bluff and provide wildlife habitat.

Construction is anticipated to start in late Spring 2026 and be completed by the end of the year.
