This
American Canoe Association (ACA) workshop is designed for individuals and programmers with stand up paddleboard experience, who are interested in offering certified stand up paddleboard classes. This intensive 4-day workshop is designed as both an Instructor Development Workshop (IDW) and an Instructor Certification Exam (ICE).
The 4-day course will take place at both Wallace Lake in Mill Stream Run Reservation and Emerald Necklace Marina in Rocky River Reservation. Time and days at each location will be determined by weather and water conditions, so participants should be flexible with adjusting to either location. Paddling venues will include flatwater (inland lake and slow moving river-Rocky River) and open water (Lake Erie). Particpants should be prepared to teach both on-land and on-water topics covering all
Level 1 skills and
Level 2 skills. Throughout the course, experienced trainers will evaluate each candidate's paddling skills, knowledge, and teaching abilities. Candidates will be expected to teach a variety of on-land and on-water topics as well as exhibit leadership and group management skills while leading a group on the water. Candidate’s teaching and paddling skills will be critiqued constructively. Candidates should expect to have some pre-course work as well as homework throughout the course.
Upon successful completion of the workshop, participants can receive SUP instructor certification through the American Canoe Association. Please note, while certification is typically the goal of most candidates, mere participation in this course carries no guarantee of certification
. A packet further outlining the course as well as assigned teaching topics and equipment lists will be e-mailed to instructor candidates prior to the course.
