Hear the Sounds of These Amphibians

About | Conservation | Hear the Sounds of These Amphibians

    American Toad

Push play to hear my sound
American toads are one of the most encountered amphibians in Cleveland Metroparks. They head to shallow pools in the spring where they lay long strings of up to 15,000 eggs! They develop rapidly and soon little toadlets are leaving these pools before the pools possibly dry up from the summer heat.

    Wood Frog

Push play to hear my sound
The wood frog is an explosive breeder and can be found in vernal pools in early spring. When breeding is complete, they head back to the forest were they spend the rest of the year hunting in the leaf litter of the forest floor.

    Spring Peeper

Push play to hear my sound
This small frog has one big voice! Spring peeper’s calls are a harbinger of spring as the males call relentlessly for a few weeks each spring in local wetlands in hope of attracting a female. Soon after mating, they return to the shrubs and trees were they hunt small insects.
