Take Action: Canines for Conservation


Calling all dog owners, conservationists, and canines of all kinds. Join Cleveland Metroparks Zoo for a special event at Aukerman Park.  Bring your furry friends and learn how the Zoo, in partnership with Ruaha Carnivore Project, is working to develop effective conservation strategies to help lions and other large carnivore in the wild.  You may be surprised to discover that dogs are part of the solution to saving Africa’s largest cats! Aukerman Park is located within Mill Stream Run Reservation at: 15561 York Rd. North Royalton Oh, 44133.

Time: 10 a.m. to Noon 

Course Information

Activities include:
  • Agility challenge - put your pup to the test on different challenges and obstacles.
  • Mutt Strut – walk, jog, or run to get some exercise for a good cause. 
  • Meet a Dog with a Job: Metroparks Rangers K-9 unit will be on hand to demonstrate what it’s like to be a working dog with a job. 
  • Paw Prints – A doggie art station to design a unique dog created work of art. 
  • Canines for Cats – A Lion themed photo opportunity will be available to transform your dog into a cat! Snap a photo and share our conservation message to help secure a future for wildlife


Donation of any amount.  Credit card donations will be accepted the day of the event. Cash and checks are not able to be accepted on-site. 


Lions are the majestic symbol of wild Africa, but populations are in dramatic decline due to loss of habitat and prey, and conflict with humans. Join our efforts to help lions and local communities coexist!
