Register Work together with your class, school, or organization to help save gorillas in the wild. Gorillas on the Line is a multi-month contest challenging your team to collect as many old mobile phones for recycling as possible. By recycling old cell phones and handheld mobile devices you can help protect gorilla habitat in Africa.

    Details

Join an exciting campaign to help save gorillas in the wild. By collecting old mobile phones for recycling, you can help protect gorilla habitat in Africa. Get started with three easy steps.
    1. Answer the call! Register your class, school, or organization to participate in the 2021 Gorillas on the Line international cell phone recycling campaign and contest. After registering you will receive an email with further details and tools to help with your campaign. Your group's campaign can be as simple as setting out a cardboard box in the hallway for collecting old devices or as involved as creating posters, running activities, and offering incentives to drive old phone donations. It's your choice.
    2. Recycle those phones! With your team collect as many phones for recycling as possible, February 1-September 24. As the campaign ends, the Zoo will work with you to submit your phones to be officially tallied and then recycled. Teams collecting the most old cell phones for recycling will be announced after all submissions have been reviewed. The team collecting the most wins a special prize.  Gorillas on the Line contest typically runs February 1- April 30 but due to continued COVID-19 limitations, the 2021 campaign has been extended to run through World Gorilla Day, September 24.
    3. Save gorillas! Coltan is a mineral found in phones and other small electronics. It is mined from areas where endangered gorillas live. Recycling old mobile phones helps reduce the demand for coltan and protects gorilla habitat in Africa. Gorillas are on the line. By recycling old mobile devices, you are joining us to answer the call and helping to save gorillas in the wild!
