    South Chagrin Enhancement Fund

Parks | Support | Donate | Fund Information | South Chagrin Enhancement Fund
Be a part of the future of South Chagrin Reservation!

Your tax-deductible gift will support planned improvements including the restoration of Henry Church Rock Trail and the preservation of Look About Lodge.  Please read on for more information about these important projects.

    Henry Church Rock Trail

Henry Church Rock is an ephemeral landmark, a piece of cultural history, immersed in nature by the Chagrin River. Blacksmith, spiritualist and artist Henry Church carved images of an eagle, shield, papoose, woman, and others into the rock, dating the piece in 1885. The sandstone rock itself stands as a weathered testament to the early settlement in Bentleyville-Solon.

A popular destination for hikers, nature enthusiasts, picnickers, and wanderers, Henry Church Rock is accessed by stone stairs along the riverside. The existing Henry Church Rock Trail winds along the river and meets the stone staircase.

Due to the effects of erosion and use, the Henry Church Rock Trail is on Cleveland Metroparks highest priority list for trail restoration, including future restoration of the stone staircase.

Your gift today to the South Chagrin Enhancement Fund will provide funding needed to move forward with Phase 1 of this project: the rebuilding of this beautiful scenic trail.

    Look About Lodge

Cleveland Metroparks is dedicated to preserving and rehabilitating Look About Lodge so it may be enjoyed for generations to come.

One of three nationally registered historic landmarks found in Cleveland Metroparks, the Lodge was built by the WPA in 1938 from more than 300 chestnut logs. Originally the meeting place for the Cleveland Natural Science Club, today it serves as an outdoor education center offering special programs.

Your gift to the South Chagrin Enhancement Fund will support exterior renovations needed to maintain the integrity of this nationally registered historic landmark.
