Growing up, my weekends were spent in South Chagrin Reservation, hiking and exploring. So when I moved back to Cleveland last year, I was excited to rediscover the trails I had spent so much of my childhood on. Our family spent summers hiking in Sulphur Springs, and winters at the sledding hill. I excitedly shared the trails with my husband, who was new to the Cleveland area. Each weekend we would try new trails and combinations of trails in Sulphur Springs and Squaw Rock. Recently, we decided it was time to explore some NEW trails, but I was a bit at a loss of where to start, so I downloaded Cleveland Metroparks new trails app for some suggestions!
The app is FREE in the Apple and Google Play stores. It is easy to use, and you can choose to find trails around you, or explore by location. The app can help you discover over 300 miles of trails for hiking, biking, running or horseback riding, and get detailed directions to get to trail heads, picnic areas and beaches. In celebration of the new app, here's three of my favorite trails (oldies and new!) in South Chagrin.
Sulphur Springs Loop Trail – 1.1. miles – this hilly trail gives you beautiful views of the river. It is incredibly scenic, it is deep in the woods and provides a great escape from busy city life
Squaw Rock Loop Trail - .6 miles – this challenging trail features some of the most incredible views of the Chagrin River and is a must-visit in the fall.
Quarry Rock Trail - .4 miles – I recently discovered this trail with the trails app! This loop trail provides another gorgeous view of the Chagrin River (from the other side of the River).
