Take a moment to think back on your childhood when the only things that really mattered were playing outside all day and having fun. As adults, many of us lose this perspective on life. One of my favorite authors, Rachel Carson, wrote: “If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement, and mystery of the world we live in.” Cleveland Metroparks Naturalists try to be those people who make a difference. That difference can be made on a hike through the summer woods, in a boat on Hinckley Lake, or looking through binoculars at a nesting owl. The key is that the difference is made from an experience.
