Last spring, I decided to move back to Cleveland after living in Chicago for eight years. I loved Chicago, but was looking to be closer to my family and enjoy the outdoors more regularly. I have very fond memories of Cleveland Metroparks as I grew up near the South Chagrin reservation. Weekends were filled with creek hiking, cookouts at the pavilion and endless exploring. On my wedding day, I had invited guests to join me for a run at South Chagrin as I wanted to show off a piece of Cleveland many out of towners may not know about (they still talk about how gorgeous the reservation is.)
When I moved back, I had similar expectations that I would spend most of my time at the South Chagrin reservation. I remember last summer when I visited, my parents invited me to Look About Lodge for the summer concert series. We packed a picnic and enjoyed live music and socializing with friends. I was impressed to learn that Cleveland Metroparks was more than just hiking and lunches at the pavilion, this was the beginning of learning how much more Cleveland Metroparks offers. As a side note- I look forward to enjoying many more concerts in the series this summer (the series runs through August 17.)
Since I have moved back and joined Cleveland Metroparks, I have made lots of visits to South Chagrin, I have also discovered many more of the locations and activities that Cleveland Metroparks has to offer. I have enjoyed concerts at Edgewater Live and Euclid Beach Live, my husband has played golf at Shawnee Hills, I have explored new reservations – Bedford, Rocky River and Brecksville, walked through the Zoo with my family, rode the new Circle of Wildlife Carousel and I look forward to devoting many more of my weekends to exploring the rest of the reservations. Cleveland and Cleveland Metroparks are a hidden gem in the country for those lucky enough to discover them!
