5+ Ways to Stay Fit While Having Fun in Cleveland Metroparks

    April 4, 2014
Getting your daily dose of exercise is important. But, having fun while you’re doing it is even more important. Whether it is on land or water – the number of outdoor recreation opportunities in Cleveland Metroparks is endless.

So, be good to your body while having fun with these 5 ideas:

    1. Stand Up Paddleboarding (core)
    2. Physical Fitness Trails (total body)
    3. Kayaking (arms)
    4. Yoga (mind + body)
    5. Mountain Biking (legs)

    1. Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) - Stand up paddleboarding is the latest trend in paddlesports. Not only is it a great core workout, but it just so happens to be a lot of fun, too. Stand up paddlers use a long, single-bladed paddle to maneuver a “surfboard” for cruising and sightseeing. Try out a beginners lesson and learn how easy it is to balance and maneuver on a “surfboard.” Check our Boating/Paddling category in our Events & Programs Calendar for more information on where to rent SUP boards and classes offered.

    2. Physical Fitness Trails - Sit-ups, leg lifts, tricep dips; you can do it all at one of our Physical Fitness Trail Stations. And, the best part is you can go at your own pace. Cleveland Metroparks Physical Fitness trails feature 18 stations, providing a complete workout with illustrated instructions along a 1 to 1.5 mile path. Physical fitness trails are located in Bedford, Big Creek, Brecksville, Euclid Creek, Mill Stream Run, North Chagrin, Rocky River, and South Chagrin reservations. Click here for trail maps and info

    3. Kayaking - This killer sport screams summer. Get an amazing workout while also taking in lake views. Check here for kayak rental locations and classes offered. And, don’t forget about other boating opportunities ranging from canoes and paddleboats, to electric motor boats.

    4. Yoga - It’s no secret that yoga offers many physical, mental, and spiritual benefits. There’s no greater way to enjoy your yoga practice than outdoors in Cleveland Metroparks. Check our Fitness/Health category in our Events & Programs Calendar for yoga and meditation classes available.

    5. Mountain Biking – Take your fitness to another level or simply enjoy the ride. Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation has a short loop of about half mile for beginners with minimal mountain biking skills and a longer loop with some steep terrain for the more experienced intermediate rider. The single-track mountain bike trail is open May through December. Royalview Trail, located in Mill Stream Run Reservation, is a mountain bike trail consisting of two loops totaling 9 miles of beginner to intermediate level single-track trails.
