Today we are turning the Cleveland Metroparks Blog reins over to cyclist Rob Thompson for a guest post! Rob chats about everything you can look forward to at the upcoming NEOCycle extravaganza. Enjoy! Thanks Cleveland Metroparks! Greetings I’m Rob Thompson, an elite amateur cyclist (category 1) and Urban Planning senior at the Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University. I also just so happen to love fall. If you dislike fall then I’m afraid we can’t be friends. The humidity drops as the leaves start to turn, the trails are dry and perfect for riding, and cyclocross (an odd subcategory of cycling that’s super fun and exploding in popularity) comes to the fore. This year promises to be most excellent because of an event on September 26-28 - NEOCycle. It’s a regional cycling festival kicking-off at the Cleveland Velodrome Friday night. There are two great events at Cleveland Metroparks Edgewater Park on Saturday: a cyclocross race, and a night ride on the shoreway! It promises to be a great weekend. Even if you don’t like cycling (thanks for reading this far!) come to The Hub at Edgewater Park on Saturday. There will be live music, beer, food, activities for the family, exhibits, a farmers market, yoga, SUP, shows - basically every cool thing you can think of. It’s FREE too, so no excuses! And, don’t forget about the fast paced criterium racing on Sunday in University Circle (I’ll be racing if you want to heckle me,) and a non-competitive fundo Sunday morning for all abilities. Info on registration below! I’m going to avoid thinking about what comes after fall for a while, I’m not ready to ride in the cold yet. Maybe I’ll buy some waders and take up fishing?
