      Are you tired of eating the same old food around the campfire? Spice up your cooking skills with exciting new recipes guaranteed to add some flavor to your camping trip! Led by our Outdoor Recreation Inclusion Specialist, this program is specifically designed for guests with disabilities (including but not limited to physical, cognitive, sensory, visual impairments, and hearing impairments). to enhance their menu options by learning how to use pie irons to cook a fun treat like pies and s’mores. Dutch Ovens will be available and used based on skill and interest. Reasonable dietary restrictions can be accommodated.

      Directions: Program meets in Intergrove Lodge Picnic Area.
      Ages: 10 years & over (Minors between the ages of 10-17 MUST have a registered and participating adult)
      Fee: $15 per person (All guests MUST register)
      Terrain/Distance: Indoor environment with a fireplace.
      Let your taste buds go wild as you discover tips and tricks to camp cooking!  Participants will learn to cook delicious foods over a campfire using pie irons and possibly Dutch Ovens. After you've finished learning your new recipes, it's time to eat! Participants have an opportunity to try the food they prepared. During this program, guests will be preparing their own pie iron pizzas and s’mores pies. The ingredients will include white bread, pizza sauce, cheese, vegetable cooking spray, marshmallows, milk chocolate, and butter. The allergens will include but are not limited to eggs, wheat, soy, nuts, and dairy. In addition, a Dutch Oven meal may be prepared. A full list of ingredients can be available five days before the program upon request at or@clevelandmetroparks.com. For dietary reasons, feel free to bring your own ingredient substitutes or just watch. Reasonable accommodations can be made for dietary restrictions. Hand sanitizer will be available.
       
      If anyone in your party would benefit from program modifications due to a disability, please let us know.       Classes will begin promptly, so plan to arrive early. Please bring a completed waiver and review the participant equipment list.

      General Essential Eligibility Requirements that all participants must meet. A participant….
      • …must meet minimum age for each individual program.
      • …must meet program fee requirements for each individual program.
      • …must be able to remain adequately hydrated, fed, and properly dressed in order to avoid environmental injuries such as hypothermia, heat-related illnesses, sunburn, and frostbite.
      • …must refrain from use of alcohol and tobacco before or during outdoor recreation activities and any illegal drugs throughout the duration of a program.
      • …must be able, either alone or with the aid of a personal care attendant, or through arrangements outlined on the Request for Administration of Medication Form or an Individual Medication Plan to manage, administer and protect any prescription medications currently prescribed to him or her. All medications, including over-the-counter medications shall be listed as required on the Medical Information portion of the registration materials.
      • …must be able, either alone, with the aid of an augmentative communication device, or a personal care attendant to follow directions and communicate needs.
      •  …must not exceed manufacturers’ maximum recommended weight limit for equipment being used.
      • …must be able to manage personal mobility either alone, with a reasonable amount of assistance, with the aid of a personal care attendant, or with adaptive equipment. 
      •  …must be able to independently wear and maintain wearing all safety equipment correctly.
      • …must be able, either alone or with the aid of a personal care attendant or adaptive equipment to travel at least 1 mile on varying terrain as well as be able to carry their own gear on backpacking trips.

      Cleveland Metroparks staff can adapt many programs to be accessible to anyone who would like to participate assuming they meet the essential eligibility criteria. Reasonable accommodation can also be made. Please make a request at the time of registration but no later than 72 business hours prior to the program.
