Free transport service in the flats begins Mother’s Day
Thanks to the generosity of local steelmaker ArcelorMittal Cleveland, for the third consecutive year Cleveland Metroparks eLCee2 Water Taxi will provide service to and from the East and West Bank of the Flats free-of-charge for the 2019 season.
“ArcelorMittal Cleveland is pleased to partner with Cleveland Metroparks again this year to offer free rides on the eLCee2 water taxi. Our hope is that every person who boards the water taxi gains an appreciation for the unique asset that the Cuyahoga River is to our community – a working river serving the local economy, a place for sport and recreation, and a precious ecosystem we are all responsible for protecting,” said Mike Madar, vice president and general manager, ArcelorMittal Cleveland.
Now in its fourth season, the 26-foot canopied Crosby yacht provides a connection to/from the East and West Bank of The Flats, under the Main Avenue Bridge. The water taxi can accommodate 17 passengers and up to four bikes. The water taxi is ADA accessible and dog friendly.
With nearby trail connections, the water taxi provides guests greater access to recreational opportunities along the Cuyahoga River and Lake Erie.
"This year we reflect on 50 years of recovery of the Cuyahoga River,” said Cleveland Metroparks CEO, Brian M. Zimmerman. “We want to thank ArcelorMittal for its partnership, which will allow more guests to see the progress and experience the growing connections to the river and lakefront.”
Thanks to ArcelorMittal’s partnership in 2018 that made the water taxi free, ridership continues to increase year over year, with a record 47,381 riders in 2018.
