World Water Day, a fun and free event at Cleveland Metroparks Watershed Stewardship Center, gives visitors and families a global perspective on the role water plays throughout the world and in their own neighborhoods.
World Water Day, running from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 19, uses interactive exhibits, hikes, activities, entertainment and crafts to shed light on the importance of water.
Visitors will travel the globe without ever leaving the Watershed Stewardship Center with a watershed global passport. Earn stamps by visiting the different countries represented throughout the center including Peru, Haiti, Russia and India, and learning about different water and sustainability issues facing each area.
Docents with live animals will be a part of the event, and visitors will be able to explore the West Creek Reservation on a tractor-drawn wagon ride every half-hour from 12:30 - 3:30 p.m. There will also be food tastings from Merwin's Wharf, Cleveland Metroparks restaurant in the Flats, and visitors also will have the chance to have a free photo taken before leaving the event. A local troupe of Indian dancers will present a performance at 1 p.m. The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District will have a sewer simulator on-hand.
UA Local Unions 55 and 120 will be showcasing the Sustainable Technologies Demonstration Trailer, part of their Green Awareness Training Program. The UA is a multi-craft union representing plumbers, pipefitters, sprinkler fitters and HVACR service technicians throughout North America.
UA is a member in the BlueGreen Alliance, a national partnership between labor unions and environmental organizations that work together to find ways to address environmental challenges and create good jobs.
World Water Day is presented in partnership with the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District and the West Creek Conservancy. For more information, visit clevelandmetroparks.com, or call 440-887-1968.
