A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), will arrive June 7 to examine all aspects of Cleveland Metroparks Ranger Department's policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services, Chief Daniel J. Veloski announced today.
Verification by the team, that the Ranger Department meets the commission's state-of-the-art standards, is part of the voluntary process to gain accreditation -- a highly prized recognition of public safety professional excellence, said Veloski.
As part of the assessment, agency personnel and members of the public are invited to offer comments at a public information session at 6 p.m. Monday, June 8 at Ranger Headquarters, 4600 Valley Parkway, Rocky River Reservation, Fairview Park.
If for some reason an individual cannot speak at the public information session but would still like to provide comments to the assessment team, he/she may do so by telephone. The public may call (440) 331-5885 on June 8 from 1-3 p.m.
Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency's ability to comply with CALEA Standards. A copy of the standards is available at Ranger Headquarters. The local contact is Ranger Chief Daniel J. Veloski.
Written comments about the Ranger Department's ability to meet the standards for accreditation may be sent to: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc., 13575 Heathcote Blvd., Suite 320, Gainesville, VA 20155.
The Ranger Department has to comply with 189 standards in order to gain accredited status, Veloski said.
Accreditation is for three years, during which time the agency must submit annual reports attesting continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited.
