Three out of five species of rhinoceros are critically endangered, including the species seen at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, the eastern black rhino. Due to habitat loss and poaching, several rhino species are on the verge of extinction. Spare an evening and play a game of bowling or two in support of these endangered species.

The Greater Cleveland Chapter of the American Association of Zookeepers presents the 25th annual Bowling for Rhinos fundraiser from 6:30 p.m. to midnight, Saturday, June 13 at Cloverleaf Lanes, 5619 Brecksville Road in Independence.

Advanced registration is $20 or $40 at the door, subject to availability. Donations are tax deductible and include three games of bowling, shoe rental, pizza, pop and snacks. There also will be a silent auction, raffles, entertainment and trivia. Bowlers can register individually, or form a team of 4-6 people. Bowlers that collect $100 or more in sponsor money will receive a free gift.

One hundred percent of all Bowling for Rhinos donations go directly to rhino sanctuaries in Kenya, Java and Sumatra. Since 1990, the Cleveland chapter of AAZK has given more than $128,000 to help endangered rhinos, with nationwide efforts reaching more than $4 million.

Registration forms are available online at clevelandmetroparks.com/zoo or in the Zoo's Administration Building. For more information, call 216-661-6500 Ext. 4452.

Northeast Ohio's most-visited year-round attraction, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission is $16.95 per person, $14.95 for seniors ages 62 and older, $12.95 for kids ages 2 to 11 and free for children younger than 2 and Zoo members. Parking is free.
