Come out and play this October and enjoy a variety of seasonal activities and programs in Cleveland Metroparks and Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Enjoy cooler - but comfortable - temperatures, beautiful fall colors and breathtaking scenery while participating in fun, fall festivities suitable for all ages.

    Cleveland Metroparks Zoo
-Celebrate the arrival of the Zoo's new baby boy giraffe, Jabari, with a special free kids admission offer during the month of October.  Mention Jabari at the Zoo's Box Office and receive one free child admission with each paid adult admission*. And, experience the magic and excitement of Halloween at the Zoo's 25th annual Boo at the Zoo presented by Giant Eagle. Boo at the Zoo is a safe, not scary, event that runs for eight nights October 16 - 19 and 23 - 26 from 6 - 9 p.m.  For just one low price, experience a glow-in-the-dark dance show, Monster Mash Dance Party, Halloween Hay Maze and the Haunting on the High Seas Live Animal Show. Purchase advance sale tickets before they sell out by visiting clevelandmetroparks.com/zoo.

    Hayrides
-Tractor-drawn hayrides are offered every Saturday night in October from 6 - 10 p.m. at the Chalet located in Mill Stream Run Reservation in Strongsville. Wagons are filled on a first-come, first-served basis and leave approximately every half hour. Before or after the hayride enjoy additional entertainment including: line and square dancing, a hay maze, and a self-guided scavenger hunt plus games, crafts, face painting and balloon twisting for younger children.   Hayride admission includes all the entertainment and costs $8.50 for adults; $6.50 for children 3 - 11; and is free for children 2 and younger (must ride on adult lap.) Refreshments are available for purchase from the Chalet concession stand.

Walking Works program - It's not too late to finish (or start) walking eight of the 13 designated Walking Works trails located throughout Cleveland Metroparks by the end of October deadline. Return your completed Working Works form to Cleveland Metroparks and receive this year's Walking Works shield. For more information and to download a Walking Works form, visit clevelandmetroparks.com or stop by a Cleveland Metroparks nature center.

Chippewa Creek Challenge and Little Stream 1-mile Kids Race
    - Adults and older teens can explore many of the trails in Brecksville Reservation on this 10-mile trail race while younger children can have  fun running in the one-mile kids race, Saturday, October 18 starting at 8 a.m. at the Oak Grove Picnic Area in Brecksville Reservation. Proceeds benefit Cleveland Metroparks Trails Fund. To register, visit westernreserveracing.com.

Peak on the Pontoon - Discover the spectacular show of fall colors by boat rather than by foot. Take a leisurely pontoon boat ride around Hinckley Lake, guided by naturalist Pam Taylor and view amazing fall colors. Pontoon rides are available on Saturday, October 18 from 1 - 2 p.m. and 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. Cost is $5 per person. Register online at clevelandmetroparks.com.

Don't miss two free special events in October suitable for all ages. During daylight hours, kids can try a variety of outdoor recreational activities at Outdoor Odyssey, Saturday, October 11 from noon to 4 p.m. in Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation.  And with fall's shorter daylight hours there's a fun opportunity to explore the park after dark while learning about nocturnal animals at Nature at Night, Saturday, October 18 from 4 - 9 p.m. at River Grove Picnic Area in North Chagrin Reservation in Willoughby Hills.

For more information on these and other upcoming events, visit clevelandmetroparks.com.
