Before you visit the elephants, lions and giraffes at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, consider adding a four-legged friend to your family. Find the perfect pup or kitty at Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo, one of the largest animal adoption events in the area.
More than 100 adoptable dogs, cats, puppies and kittens will be looking for their forever homes on the Zoo's Ticket Plaza on Saturday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Since its start in 2001, Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo has matched 800 pets with new owners. By adopting a pet, owners can help control the pet population, decrease crowds in animal rescue centers and give older dogs and cats the opportunity to have loving homes.
Adopting is often more affordable than buying through breeders, and who can resist the happy tail wagging of a hopeful dog or cat? Animal adoption workers will be on hand to answer questions and help you find the perfect companion.
Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo takes place under tents, outside the Zoo on the Ticket Plaza, and is free. For health and safety reasons, visitors should leave their current pets at home. Each participating rescue group sets its own adoption fees and policies.
Northeast Ohio's most-visited year-round attraction, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission is $12.25 per person, $8.25 for kids ages 2 to 11 and free for children younger than 2 and Zoo members. Parking is free. Located at 3900 Wildlife Way, the Zoo is easily accessible from Interstates 71, 90 and 480.
