Hop to Cleveland Metroparks North Chagrin Nature Center in Willoughby Hills for Toad-ally Awesome Amphibians on Saturday, April 5 from noon to 4 p.m. in celebration of amphibians. See live amphibians and find out more about the natural history of these interesting critters.
Enjoy close encounters with more than two dozen live native and exotic amphibians. See a barred tiger salamander, Amazon horned frog, Budgett's frog, Malayan leaf frog, northern red salamander, gray tree frog, spotted salamander, red-eyed tree frog, poison dart frogs and many others. Cleveland Metroparks naturalists and volunteers are available to answer questions and share cool amphibian facts.
While you explore the nature center, design your own make-n-take toad abode and transform your own back yard or garden into an amphibian habitat. You'll also find information about upcoming amphibian hikes in North and South Chagrin Reservations as well as other reservations throughout the Park District.
Children will have fun exploring a new hands-on amphibian life cycle activity. Kids will transform from an egg, to a tadpole, and finally an adult. Kids will be surprised when they discover if they've been transformed into a frog or salamander.
Venture outdoors and take a walk around the nature center's Sanctuary Marsh and Sunset Pond. Do you see or hear any evidence of amphibians? Do you see an egg mass? Do you hear a chorus of male frogs? On warm, rainy spring nights frogs, salamanders and toads awake from winter hibernation and begin migrating to vernal pools for courtship and breeding.
North Chagrin Nature Center is located off Buttermilk Falls Parkway, off the Sunset Lane entrance of North Chagrin Reservation, accessible from SOM Center Road/Route 91 in Mayfield Village.
