Calling all reptile lovers! Come out and play at Cleveland Metroparks Snakes, Turtles & Fun on Saturday, August 23 from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Shelterhouse Picnic Area in South Chagrin Reservation in Bentleyville. Learn more about awesome reptiles during this free event through live animal exhibits, games, crafts and hands-on activities for the whole family.

See a variety of native and non-native snakes, lizards and turtles in a live animal exhibit presented by Northern Ohio Association of Herpetologists (NOAH) and Cleveland Metroparks Outdoor Experiences. Come eye-to-eye with an Eastern rat snake, box turtle, ring neck snake, painted turtle, lizards and skinks. Get answers to your reptilian questions from Cleveland Metroparks naturalists and NOAH members. Listen to presentations from Cleveland Metroparks naturalist Jeff Riebe about the natural history of reptiles, making good decisions when choosing a reptile as a pet and how to properly care for a pet reptile.

Families can also enjoy games and make-n-take crafts. Children will transform into a turtle in the Turtle Scooter Race, or play a more traditional party game with a new twist, Pin the Tongue on the Snake. Discover cool facts about cold-blooded reptiles by playing the GIANT Reptile Board Game. Bring an old necktie from home and turn it into a cool snake craft and decorate a colorful reptile-themed bandana. Younger children will love digging for assorted toy reptiles in the self-discovery Reptile Dig area. Plus, listen to nature songs and stories from wandering musician Musical Mark.

Refreshments are available for purchase from the Double Eagle Caf.

The Shelterhouse Picnic Area is located off Hawthorn Parkway in South Chagrin Reservation, east of SOM Center Road/Rte. 91 in Bentleyville - north of the Route 422/Route 91 exit.
