    DOG PROGRAMS GET OWNERS ACTIVE IN CLEVELAND METROPARKS

    With the temperature dropping, it's easy to forget that getting outside and active with your canine pal is important for the health of your dog and you. Taking your dog outside for a walk or hike can decrease effects of separation anxiety and provide an outlet to burn off energy. Also, dog owners on average get more exercise than non-dog owners.


    So grab the leash and get heart healthy with your well-behaved dog at any of these naturalist-led hikes, and then join us for a movie night about the history of dogs:


    Dog  Hike

    Saturday, February 8 � 2 - 3:30 p.m.

    North Chagrin Nature Center � North Chagrin Reservation

    Bring your best friend to the park for some socialization. This hike will follow the wooded trails of North Chagrin Reservation. Dogs must be leashed. North Chagrin Nature Center is located off SOM Center Road/Route 91 in Mayfield Village. Follow the signs for the nature center at the Sunset Lane entrance to North Chagrin Reservation.     Paws at PawPaw

    Sunday, February 16 � 2:30 - 4 p.m.

    PawPaw Picnic Area � Mill Stream Run Reservation

    Bring your dog for a hike along the Rocky River and enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of the winter woods. Brecksville Nature Center is located off Chippewa Creek Drive, off the Route 82 entrance of Brecksville Reservation in Brecksville.     Cinema Saturday Night: Dogs that Changed the World

    Saturday, February 22 � 7:30 - 9 p.m.

    Rocky River Nature Center � Rocky River Reservation

    Dogs all have the same common ancestor, but not all dogs are created equally. Commemorate the start of Alaska's Iditarod Sled Dog Race with this look at the history of dogs. Doors open at 7 p.m. Rocky River Nature Center located at 24000 Valley Parkway in Rocky River Reservation, north of Cedar Point Road in North Olmsted. For more information, call 440-734-6660.
