Don't get left behind in the dust! Spring is coming and you want to be ready for the warmer weather. Get prepared for the upcoming bike riding season at Bike Day at CanalWay - Let's Get Ready to Ride! on Sunday, March 16 from 1 - 4 p.m. at CanalWay Center in Cleveland Metroparks Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation in Cuyahoga Heights.
Geared for all bike enthusiasts from beginners to expert riders, Bike Day at CanalWay features free, hands-on activities to help select, maintain and fix bicycles. This is a great opportunity to get an overview of the latest trends and technology in bicycling, said Doug Kusak, Cleveland Metroparks Cultural History Interpreter and organizer of the event.
Representatives from Ohio City Bicycle Co-op (OCBC) will encourage guests to practice removing tires and tubes from a bicycle wheel so riders will feel more confident and comfortable when repairing a flat tire out on a ride. OCBC will also have their Safety Bike on display which guests can inspect and try to find all the things that are not so safe with it.
Cleveland Metroparks Outdoor Education staff will demonstrate how to safely and easily remove the front and rear tires, how to make minor adjustments to brake calipers and the tension on hand brakes, and explain the potential pitfalls when removing and replacing wheels.
Representatives from local bicycling organizations and businesses will be on hand to answer questions and talk with guests about local biking opportunities. Information will be available on free local rides, bicycle safety, classes and training, bike and equipment sales and rentals, bike repairs and bicycle advocacy.
CanalWay Center is located off Whittlesey Way, off the East 49th Street entrance of Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation in Cuyahoga Heights, between Grant Ave. and Canal Road.
