Spring is back in Cleveland Metroparks West Creek Reservation!
Join naturalists and volunteers for a variety of programs in West Creek Reservation. Explore the lay of the reservation's land, water and wildlife this April with these free programs:
Chubs, Shiners and Dace
Tuesday, April 2 � 1 - 3 p.m.
Join Naturalist Jen Brumfield on an expedition to find and identify the small fish of West Creek. There are always surprises, including crayfish! Bring boots and clothes that can get wet! Small nets will be provided.
Garlic Mustard Pull
Saturday, April 13 � 10 a.m. - noon -OR- 2 - 4 p.m.
Come out and grab some garlic mustard by the roots. This invasive weed causes ecological damage in Ohio forests, but it is easy to remove with some help. Come for an hour or two in the morning or afternoon. Training will be provided. Groups are encouraged to register in advance. To register, visit clevelandmetroparks.com.
West Creek Watershed Bus Tour
Saturday, April 20 � 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
All those curious about watershed health and projects designed to restore urban ecosystems and how they work, should join the Watershed Volunteer Program on a bus tour with the experts. The tour stops at various project areas around Parma to discuss watershed issues and the action plans for the neighborhood. Registration is required. To register, email jmg2@clevelandmetroparks.com.
Bioblitz!
Monday, April 22 � 1 - 2:30 p.m.
Join Naturalist Jen Brumfield on a fast and fun bioblitz and help keep track of all the living things discovered. See animals, plants, mushrooms and more! Can the group find 200 species? This eye-opening adventure will challenge participants to see the world in detail.
West Creek Totally Rocks
Thursday, April 25 � 9 - 11 a.m.
Join Naturalist Jen Brumfield on a quest to see beautiful shale hillsides and a waterfall. Find out which plants and animals are drawn to West Creek Reservation because of it geology and try to track down a bank-nesting bird - the belted kingfisher.
Wildflower Walk
Friday, April 27 � 2 - 3:30 p.m.
Come out to search the woods for early spring wildflowers with Naturalist Debra Shankland. Discover their beauty and function in the ecosystem.
Migration Sensations
Friday, April 27 � 2 - 3:30 p.m.
Join Naturalist Jen Brumfield to scour wetlands and grasslands for migrant birds. Count data will be submitted to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology via smartphone. Many colorful species are on their way back from Mexico and South America. Come see them before they go to Canada!
All programs meet at the Watershed Stewardship Center parking lot.
