Have you always wanted to play or camp out in Cleveland Metroparks at night? Then Friday, August 16 is your chance, with not one, but two different options for nighttime activities in North and South Chagrin Reservations.
For the first time, families will be able to camp out at Squires Castle in North Chagrin Reservation. From 4 p.m. Friday, August 16 to 11 a.m. Saturday, August 17, families can form an encampment around the castle and take part in games, a night hike and campfire songs. Families are encouraged to make and bring a flag or banner with their own family crest on it to mark their plot of land in the overnight village - so be creative!
Bring something to cook for dinner in the pavilion, breakfast will be provided. Campsites for this event are 20 feet by 20 feet and are $20 each. If you don't have your own tent, there are a few available for rent. They can be reserved in advance for a $10 fee by calling 216-341-1704. Event registration is available online at clevelandmetroparks.com.
Squires Castle is located off Chagrin River Road, south of Chardon Road, in North Chagrin Reservation in Willoughby Hills.
If a little more adventure is what you're after, then perhaps a nighttime game of Capture the Flag would be more your speed. This free game of old-fashioned Capture the Flag is for ages 14 and older, and it takes place from 8-10 p.m. Friday, August 16 in the South Chagrin Reservation. Be prepared to move and get a little messy, you'll have to find the other team's flag and evade capture! Reservations are required, with meeting location to be released upon registration. For more information, call 440-247-7075. Registration is available online at clevelandmetroparks.com.
