The Citizen Science Seminars are being cancelled or rescheduled while the construction of the new Watershed Stewardship Center is being completed.
Join Cleveland Metroparks and learn more about the people who dedicate their time to helping the Park District collect data, like the thousands of others nationwide who gather valuable environmental and climate change information by attending the Citizen Science Seminars at the Watershed Stewardship Center at West Creek Reservation in Parma.
Citizen Science Recognition Event
Please join Cleveland Metroparks for a recognition event of past citizen science volunteers. These volunteers assisted Cleveland Metroparks Natural Resource Division with bird banding, turtle monitoring, deer spotlighting and telemetry, ash mapping and many other data collection activities. Those who are also interested in becoming citizen scientist should come to learn about getting involved in citizen science opportunities.
Stewardship Studio
Appreciate art and discuss a book in one event. Join Cleveland Metroparks for the first art opening of the Watershed Stewardship Center. Enjoy refreshments and sustainable-themed art during the reception. After the art opening, there will be a group discussion and review of the classic book, A Sand County Almanac by Aldo Leopold. This book will set the stage for discussing stewardship themed books every other month.
Citizen Science Seminar: Why Study Deer?
White-tailed deer are causing public concern throughout the region because of safety issues, damage to ornamental plants, and large-scale modifications of natural systems. Population management can help ease worries, but factors controlling population growth must be understood as well. This presentation will discuss deer biology and the animals' impact on people and natural resources in the context of a pilot study currently underway in Parma.
West Creek Reservation's main entrance is located off West Ridgewood Drive, between State and Broadview Roads in Parma.
