Become a citizen scientist and make a difference! Learn how to safely and properly monitor bird nests and contribute towards the conservation and study of birds as Cleveland Metroparks hosts Cornell Lab of Ornithology's NestWatch this March.
Every spring and summer, volunteers from across the country visit nests and report their findings to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's NestWatch program. As a NestWatcher, participants keep tabs on bird family life, following progression from eggs to fuzzy chicks, to gawky youngsters ready to take their first flight. The data is added to a continually growing database used to monitor bird populations and study their behavior. Through collective efforts, the NestWatch program aims to better understand how and why bird populations thrive and decline so that ultimately people can take the necessary steps to conserve birds everywhere.
Cleveland Metroparks is a registered chapter of the NestWatch program and provides annual free trainings to the public. Come learn what the program is, how the information is used and even how to participate from home at these training sessions in March:
