Calling all history buffs! Cleveland Metroparks invites everyone to step back in time and learn more about history with the following free programs:

    Great Lakes Exposition 1936-1937

    Thursday, February 21 10 a.m. - noon

CanalWay Center Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation

The biggest party Cleveland has ever seen was held on a lakefront garbage dump! Cultural History Interpreter Doug Kusak takes an irreverent look at how trashy things got above ground and benefitted the city. History and gossip abound at this free program. Registration, beginning February 1, is required. CanalWay Center is located on Whittlesey Way, off the East 49th Street entrance of Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation, between Grant Avenue and Canal Road in Cuyahoga Heights. For more information and to register, call 216-206-1000.

    Venture Through Viaduct

    Friday, February 22 10 - 11 a.m.

    Willis Picnic Area Bedford Reservation

    History of Maple Sugaring

    March 2, 3, 9, 10, 16 and 17 11 a.m.  - 4 p.m.

Maple Grove Picnic Area Rocky River Reservation

The steady drip of melting snow and ice signals sap is beginning to flow and it's time to rush to collect it before the leaves bud. On weekends from March 2 through 17, walk through time along the Sugarbush Trail to see the sap-collecting methods and syrup-making processes used by Native Americans, pioneers and modern sugar farmers. The walk ends at the sugarhouse to watch sap boiled into delicious maple syrup. Maple Grove Picnic Area is located off Valley Parkway in Rocky River Reservation, between Cedar Point Road and Spafford Road in Brook Park. For more information, call 440-734-6660.
