Let's face it - geology rocks! Fossils, precious stones and gems are all a part of geology (the study of rocks). Celebrate the amazing way these special rocks form and what we can learn from studying them at Geology Weekend at Rocky River Nature Center. Drop in on Saturday, January 18 or Sunday, January 19 for a free weekend of discussions and demonstrations from the North Coast Fossil Club and Parma Lapidary Club.
Saturday, January 18 1 - 3 p.m.
Extreme Fossil Road Show
Meet fossil collectors and experts, while browsing collections from the North Coast Fossil Club members, as they share their experiences about their fossil finds. If you have any fossils at home, dig up as much information as you can to help the experts identify what flora or fauna they come from. Many fossils will be on display and you could even take a fossil home to start your own collection.
Sunday, January 19 1 - 4:30 p.m.
Gems and Jewels of the World
If you are into the finer things in life, join the Parma Lapidary Club for a day solely dedicated to precious stones and gems. What makes some stones more valuable than others? See jewlery and creations made from semi-precious stones and learn stone-finishing techniques to make your own beautiful jewelry from rocks, minerals and metals.
Rocky River Nature Center is located at 24000 Valley Parkway in Rocky River Reservation, north of Cedar Point Road in North Olmsted.
