    WELCOME MIGRANT BIRDS BACK WITH CLEVELAND METROPARKS

    Now that the snow has melted, many birds are returning to their homes here and north of Lake Erie. 



        
    Cleveland Metroparks invites everyone to get an eye-full of beautiful warblers, kinglets and more with bird-related programs in May led by experienced staff and volunteers, including:



    Spring Bird Hike

    Thursdays, May 2, May 9, May 16, May 23  � 8:30 - 10:30 a.m.

    Jackson Field � South Chagrin Reservation

    Hike to discover winged migrants during this series of bird hikes. Binoculars are recommended. Some will be available to borrow. Jackson Field is located off Jackson Road in South Chagrin Reservation, north of Miles Road in Moreland Hills. For more information, call 440-247-7075.



    May Migrators

    Friday, May 3 � 10 - 11:30 a.m.

    Garfield Park Nature Center ? Garfield Park Reservation ? Garfield Heights

    Many birds are on their return trip to their breeding grounds north of Lake Erie. Bring a pair of binoculars for this walk through the woods of Garfield Park Reservation in search of some of these species making their way home. Garfield Park Nature Center is located off Mill Creek Lane, off the Broadway Avenue entrance of Garfield Park Reservation in Garfield Heights. For more information, call 216-341-3152.



    Migrants at Wendy Park

    Sunday, May 5 � 7 - 8:30 p.m.

    Wendy Park

    Join Naturalist Bethany Majeski for an early bird hike in search of spring migrants. Enjoy views of beautiful Lake Erie and the City of Cleveland on this winding walk through the park, which meets in the parking lot  at Wendy Park, located off the OH-2 West Shoreway, near the Whiskey Island Marina in Cleveland.  For more information, call 440-734-6660.



    Warblers at West Creek

    Thursday, May 9 � 9 - 11 a.m.

    Watershed Stewardship Center parking lot � West Creek Reservation

    Join Naturalist Jen Brumfield on a birding adventure, seeking colorful migrant warblers, kinglets, orioles, tanagers and more. West Creek's proximity to Lake Erie makes it a fantastic stopover for migrant birds. Bring binoculars. West Creek Reservation's main entrance is located off West Ridgewood Drive, between State and Broadview roads in Parma. For more information, call 440-887-1968.



    Monthly Morning with the Birds

    Saturday, May 11 � 8 - 11 a.m.

    Rocky River Nature Center parking lot � Rocky River Reservation

    The warblers are here! Meet Naturalist Ken Gober for a monthly hike to survey bird activity near Rocky River Nature Center. Please bring binoculars and a bird guide and dress for the weather. Rocky River Nature Center is located at 24000 Valley Parkway in Rocky River Reservation, north of Cedar Point Road in North Olmsted. For more information, call 440-734-6660.



    Birding in a Big Canoe

    Thursday, May 23 � 6 - 8 p.m.

    Eldon Russell Park � Geauga Park District

    Join Historical Interpreter/Naturalist Foster Brown and Ben DeRubertis on a trip in a 34-foot canoe down the scenic Upper Cuyahoga River.  Enjoy birding, talking history, looking at wildflowers, trees, insets, and some water-loving mammals. Registration, beginning May 1, and a $10 fee are required. Eldon Russell Park is located on Rapids Road in Geauga Park District in Chardon, Ohio.     Early Bird Hike

    Sunday, May 26 �7 - 8:30 a.m.

    Rocky River Nature Center � Rocky River Reservation

    Quiet, early mornings are often the best times for wildlife observation. Enjoy a hike along the nature center trails and discover many birds, mammals, and more!
