    LEARN WATER RECREATION SKILLS WITH CLEVELAND METROPARKS INSTITUTE OF THE GREAT OUTDOORS

    Paddleboarding, kayaking and canoeing are recreational and educational programs offered through Cleveland Metroparks Institute of the Great Outdoors (IGO).



        
    IGO provides a wide range of outdoor experiences to people of all abilities.  Participants can enjoy the knowledge and expertise of seasoned instructors with all IGO courses and trips and have fun at the same time.  IGO helps people develop or enhance their outdoor skills and knowledge and environmental ethics.



        
    With the warmer summer weather approaching, being around water is always a fun way to enjoy the season. IGO is offering the following water recreation courses and trips this spring and summer:


    American Canoe Association Level I: Introduction to Canoe Instructor Certification Workshop

    Thursday thru Saturday, June 13 - 15 � 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

    Hinckley Reservation

    Sign up for this workshop designed for individuals interested in offering American Canoe Association (ACA) certified canoe classes. Candidates will teach a minimum of two subjects both in the classroom and on the water and will receive a critique of their on- and off-water teaching and paddling skills. Upon successful completion of the workshop, participants can receive instructor certification through the ACA. Pre-requisite Previous paddling experience is required. Completion of ACA Intro to Canoe/Kayak course preferred. For certification, all participants must be members of the ACA & SEIC and meet ACA instructor requirements prior to the program. To become a member, visit www.americancanoe.org. There is a $225 fee per person (includes equipment, books, and lunch the first two days).



    Stand Up Paddleboarding  - Introduction

    Saturday, June 8 � 10 am - noon AND 1 - 3 p.m.

    Saturday, June 15 � 1:30 - 3:30 p.m.

    - or -

    Saturday, June 22 � 1:30 - 3:30 p.m.

    Wallace Lake � Mill Stream Run Reservation

    Stand Up Paddleboarding is a great way to have fun and get a little daily workout. Lessons will teach participants how easy it is to balance and maneuver on a board that looks like a surfboard. Ages 10 and over with participating adult. There is a $30 fee for adults and $15 for kids (ages 10 to 15) (equipment included).



    Stand Up Paddleboarding Yoga - Beginners

    Saturday, June 15 � 11 a.m.  - 12:30 p.m.

    Saturday, June 22 � 11 a.m.  - 12:30 p.m.

    Wallace Lake � Mill Stream Run Reservation

    Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Yoga is a fun and enlightening experience. Spend the first 30 minutes learning basic SUP techniques, then practice strength, balance and flexibility. This program is for adults only. There is a $40 fee (equipment included).



    LaDue Reservoir

    Friday, May 31 � 6 - 9 p.m.

    LaDue Reservoir

    Relax after work on the calm waters of LaDue Reservoir in Geauga County. See the landscape change as sunset arrives. No previous paddling experience required. Ages 14 and over with participating adult. There is a $40 fee (equipment included).



        IGO offers equipment adaptation and assessment to make outdoor recreation opportunities available to all individuals, regardless of ability.
