Alien plants have invaded Cleveland Metroparks!

One of the biggest conservation threats to native eco-systems is the invasion of non-native species.

Alien plants are not native to Northeast Ohio and have come into the area by accident or on purpose. They typically reproduce quickly and are aggressive. Many of these alien plant species are taking over the natural habitat or native flora in Northeast Ohio, and in turn causing a loss in diversity of plant species.

Learn more about these non-native plant species and how to help stop the invasion with one of these free programs:

    Area 49: Alien Invaders

    Saturday, May 11 noon - 4 p.m.

CanalWay Center  Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation

Drop by to learn about the alien species that are invading our local area. There will be activities to help you learn about what is being done to control some of these species, how they got here and what you can do to help. You will even be able to meet some of the aliens up close.

    Area 49: Battle Stations

    Saturday, May 11 1 - 2:15p.m.

CanalWay Center  Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation

Join in the fight against some of the alien species that are invading Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation. Help remove garlic mustard and other non-native species from the reservation. Bring the required weapons: gloves, plastic bags and energy!

CanalWay Center is located on Whittlesey Way, off the E. 49th Street entrance of Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation, between Grant Avenue and Canal Road in Cuyahoga Heights.

        For more information, call 216-206-1000.
