Imagine a time when the Greater Cleveland area was
not the metropolis it is today. Imagine thick woods, small towns
and men earning their livelihood through selling animal pelts. This
is the Fur Trade Era.
Join Cleveland Metroparks Historical Interpreters on Voyageur
Canoe Paddles, one-hour living history programs taking paddlers on
a trip back to the Great Lakes Fur Trade Era. While paddling the
canoes, participants can sing along to French Canadian paddle songs
and hear tales from fur trade men of long ago. Voyageur Canoe
Paddles provide the opportunity for individuals, friends and
families to learn about the Great Lakes Fur Trade Era in a unique
and active way.
Or, enjoy the full moon reflecting off the lake on a special
Voyageur Full Moon Paddle. Participants can get a unique view of
the full moon on Hinckley Lake during this evening Paddle on
October 29.

Shove off times for paddles on Saturdays and Sundays are 11
a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
*The Full Moon Paddles are at 6 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.
The 34-foot Voyageur Canoe is a fibreglass replica of the
original voyageur canoes, which were used to travel the Great Lakes
from Montreal to Lake Superior and the eastern shores of Minnesota
in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Each participant paddles the large, 18-seater canoe on Hinckley
Lake.
Registration and a $5 fee per person are required. Space is
limited.
Life jackets, educational fun and a safe environment are
provided for all paddles.
Hinckley Lake Boathouse is located off West Drive in Hinckley
Reservation, between Bellus and State roads in Hinckley
Township.
