Sometimes learning about history can be a bit
stuffy if it's just coming from a book. History comes to life when
in Cleveland Metroparks Historical Interpreter Foster Brown
presents the Living Portraits from the Past series.

Join Foster Brown and Cleveland Metroparks in a
three-part series this October to learn more about the history of
the Ohio & Erie Canal, the Northwest Fur Trade Company and
quarrying in Northeast Ohio. All three programs are free and
    presented at Brecksville Nature Center.

Brecksville Nature Center is located off Chippewa Creek Drive,
off the Route 82 entrance of Brecksville Reservation in
    Brecksville.

    The three presentations are:

    Digger Gallagher

    Saturday, October 6 7:30 - 8:30 p.m.

In this first program in the living history series, Digger
Gallagher the Canaler will reveal the life of a canal digger who
helped create the Ohio & Erie Canal. This family program is
filled with song, story and valuable information about this
    colorful era.

    Serge the Voyageur

    Saturday, October 13 7:30  - 8:30 p.m.

This second program in the living history series has Serge the
Voyageur sharing the life of a canoe man working for the Northwest
Fur Trade Company. The daily life of these French Canadians was
grueling, but through song and story, the Great Lakes men are
    celebrated.

    Quarryman

    Saturday, October 20 7:30  - 8:30 p.m.

The third program in the living history series explains how
sandstone created an industry that brought hundreds of immigrants
to Northeast Ohio. Quarrying this stone was dangerous and dirty,
yet made its mark all throughout the world. The program includes
songs and stories that will delight the entire family!

And, don't forget to check out Foster Brown's new CD/DVD set,
Unlocked through Songs and Unlocked through Images. The CD and
DVD features stories of Akron, Barberton, Canal Fulton, Cleveland,
Independence, Massillon, Peninsula, Zoar and many more. This and
other CD's by Brown are available at Cleveland Metroparks
EarthWords Nature Shops at CanalWay Center, North Chagrin Nature
Center and Rocky River Natures Center, and online at
    http://store.clevelandmetroparks.com/index.html.
