The City of North Royalton and Cleveland Metroparks recently
agreed to acquire an approximately 14-acre parcel of land at the
corner of Valley Parkway and York Road, locally known as Aukerman
Farm.  This property is adjacent to Cleveland Metroparks
Brecksville Reservation and its all purpose trail.

Property owner Roy Auckerman said, "I am thrilled to have
worked with Mayor Stefanik and Cleveland Metroparks Executive
Director Brian Zimmerman in carrying out our family's wishes to
preserve this property as public open space."

The purchase price for the property is $219,000. The City of
North Royalton will contribute $180,000 and acquire fee simple
interest in the property. Cleveland Metroparks will contribute
$39,000 and acquire a conservation easement.

By July 2015, Cleveland Metroparks will restore and improve the
property, including demolishing the existing buildings, adding a
trailhead and parking, and developing a trail access to the popular
all purpose trail. A budget of $141,000 has been set for the
    project.

North Royalton Mayor Bob Stefanik stated, "This is another
instance where the City of North Royalton has partnered with a
government agency or private organization to provide our residents
with expanded recreation opportunities while preserving vital green
    space within the city."

The property will enhance Cleveland Metroparks 3,968-acre
Brecksville Reservation by improving access, particularly for
bikers and pedestrians, into the reservation and enhance the
recreational experience with trailhead information, a variety of
habitats to explore and enjoy, and create a gathering
    place.

Cleveland Metroparks needs community partners to successfully
meet its conservation mission, said Brian Zimmerman executive
director of Cleveland Metroparks, This is a significant
acquisition for the Park District and it enhances the community of
    North Royalton as well.

With a mission of Conservation, Education and
Recreation, Cleveland Metroparks is part of your life,
    naturally!
