Mary Huey spends lots of time in the outdoors as a
lifelong birder. She learned at an early age to look at everything
because sometimes the birds aren't cooperative, but flowers, trees
and the sky don't fly away. Over the past 5 years Huey has become
aware of the impact of her constant immersion in nature on her
quilt making. She doesn't render painterly scenery in fabric, but
rather uses the color schemes, shapes and textures of her native
surroundings. Join Huey for an exploration of her traditional
quilts and the impact nature has on their design.
Rita Knoop Thelen has spent her adult years among nature
and history. Retired after over 30 years as a naturalist with the
National Parks, Cleveland Metroparks and Johnny Appleseed Metro
Park District, Knoop Thelen's knowledge continues to grow as a
member of an American Quilt Study Group. A passionate novice
quilter, quilt collector and history enthusiast, she travels back
in time to give a unique look at the lives of 19th century women to
discover how their quilts and their quilting reflected the rapid
changes occurring around them. A collection of antique quilts will
accompany the program.
Amy Rhee delights in color. As an art teacher and
quilter, she knows color selection from theory to application. Her
presentation, Color Theory for Quilters, is helpful for
experienced quilters, as well as novices. Join Rhee to explore
color theory and discover tools to help make the best fabric
choices. This presentation is sponsored by Cindy's Sew Easy Shoppe
of North Olmsted.
Darlene Wegrynowski has a long reach in quilting,
namely her machine at THE QUILTING FACTORY. Current president of
North Coast Needler's Quilt Guild, Wegrynowski's professional
expertise in machine quilting led her to offer a talk on the topic
Preparing Your Quilt for Machine Quilting. Wegrynowski leads you
through the steps - from handling backing and batting to working
with a professional quilter on the best quil ting designs to
enhance your finished top.
In addition to the presentations, visitors can view the over 60
