Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is closed today, Tuesday, October 30, due to the threat of flooding from Big Creek, which runs through the Zoo and the Brookside Reservation valley.
The extensive amount of rain caused by the Hurricane Sandy weather system has brought the water in Big Creek very close to flood level. The decision to close the Zoo was made in the interest of keeping guests out of harm's way, allowing Zoo personnel to concentrate on weather related issues.
Barring any unforeseen circumstances related to storm damage or flooding, the Zoo is expected to reopen at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, October 31. Updates will be posted online at clemetzoo.com and on the Zoo's Facebook page.
Questions from the media should be directed to the Marketing & Public Relations department. All other questions, regarding scheduled events, classes or field trips, can be directed to the Zoo's main phone number, (216) 661-6500.
