Quilts have been around for millennia. These universal blankets
have shown up as early 3400 B.C. and appear all over the world from
China to Hawaii. Quilting is a major part of many cultures that
keep warriors warm under their armor or children warm in their
beds, or as art pieces featured prominently on a house's wall.
Get familiar with this age-old tradition at the free,
weekend-long Reflections of Nature Quilt Show on Saturday and
Sunday, November 10 and 11 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at
Rocky River Nature Center in Rocky River Reservation in North
Olmsted.
The event features a juried quilt show of great local
talent. All the quilts in the show have a nature theme, and
feature a variety of sizes, shapes and inspiration.
And, if you have a great nature-themed quilt, and are interested
in entering the juried show, you can still get an application at
any of the Park District facilities or the application/brochure is
also available online at "http://www.clevelandmetroparks.com/">www.clevelandmetroparks.com.
Click on Events & Programs, scroll down and click on
Reflections of Nature Quilt Show. While online, view pictures of
winning quilts and past shows.
To enter a quilt in the show, an application must be completed
for each quilt entered. A limit of two entries per person will be
accepted. Applications must be accompanied by a $10 entry fee per
quilt, payable by check or money order to Cleveland Metroparks
along with a non-returnable photo(s) of the quilt.
The deadline for submitting an application is Thursday, October
25.
Prizes and ribbons will be awarded to the top three quilts in
the following categories: large quilt, medium quilt, small quilt,
and EarthWords Nature Lover's Quilt Block. Additional prizes will
be awarded for Best of Show, Viewers' Choice, Best Hand Quilted,
Best Hand Work on the Quilt Top, Best Machine Quilted, Best Machine
Work on the Quilt Top, and Best Execution of Theme:
