    April is the best time to discover spectacular spring
    wildflowers. With longer spring days, wildflowers are beginning to
    bloom throughout most of Cleveland Metroparks. Take a wildflower
    walk and discover trout lily, violets, bloodroot, white trillium
    and many others. Greater Clevelanders can enjoy more than a dozen
    wildflower hikes and walks guided by Cleveland Metroparks staff or
    explore its 16 reservations at your leisure.



    The wildflower hikes and walks offered this April include:



    A Hillside of Spring



    Saturday, April 14 � 10 - 11:30 a.m.



    Highland Picnic Area parking lot � Euclid Creek
    Reservation



    There is nothing more welcoming than the first wildflowers of
    the season. The natural world is awaking from the quiet of winter.
    So, take a 2.5-mile hike and see the sights and hear the sounds of
    springs return. Highland Picnic Area is located off Euclid Creek
    Parkway, off the Highland Road entrance of Euclid Creek Reservation
    in Euclid. For more information, call 440-473-3370.



     



    Wildflower Walk



    Sunday, April 15 � 2 - 3:30 p.m.



    Willow Bend Picnic Area � Rocky
    River
    Reservation



    Willow Bend Picnic Area is one of the best places to view spring
    wildflowers. Join a naturalist on a 1.25-mile hike to see what's
    blooming in mid-April. Willow Bend Picnic Area is located off
    Valley Parkway in Rocky River Reservation, between Spafford Road
    and Falls Lane in Brookpark. For more information, call

    Johnson's Picnic Area parking lot � Hinckley
    Reservation



    Some spring wildflowers come and go very quickly. Be sure to
    enjoy a walk to witness these beauties, as they may not be here
    next week. A naturalist leads a 1- to 2-mile walk and identifies
    this week's �best in bloom.� Bring  wildflower identification
    guide, if you have them. Johnson's Picnic Area is located off West
    Drive in Hinckley Reservation, between Bellus and State roads in

    Cottonwood Picnic Area � Rocky River
    Reservation



    Along the Rocky River is a lovely woodland trail surrounded by
    spring wildflowers. Join Naturalist Kathy Schmidt for a 1-mile walk
    to view these beauties of spring. Cottonwood Picnic Area is located
    off Valley Parkway in Rocky River Reservation, south of
    Puritas/Mastick Road in FairviewPark. For more information, call

    April is a wonderful time to discover spring wildflowers. With
    longer days and shorter nights, wildflowers are now emerging and
    adding their spectacular color to the forest floor. Take a walk in
    search of these beauties. It's a sight that should not be missed.
     Rocky RiverNatureCenter is located at 24000 Valley Parkway in
    Rocky River Reservation, north of Cedar Point Road in North

    Hinckley Reservation is a spectacular place for spring
    wildflowers. Enjoy a 2.5- to 3-mile hike along hills and valleys
    offering a stunning display of these springtime treasures. Hinckley
    Lake Boathouse is located off West Drive in Hinckley Reservation,
    between Bellus and State roads in HinckleyTownship. For more

    In this three-part workshop, learn to identify any woodland
    wildflower on your own. The first part of the workshop focuses on
    botany basics, followed by two Saturday morning sessions to
    strengthen ID skills.  Participants must attend all three
    sessions and will receive a copy of Newcomb's Wildflower
    Guide
    .  A $25 fee (includes book) is required.
    Registration, beginning April 2, is required for this adults-only
    workshop. Brecksville Nature Center is located off Chippewa Creek
    Drive, off the Route 82 entrance of Brecksville Reservation in

    Hemlock Creek Picnic Area � Bedford
    Reservation



    Wander along the trail to see the sights of spring sprouting up
    all around. Bring a camera since the sea of colors is sure to be
    breathtaking! Hemlock Creek Picnic Area is located off Button Road
    in Bedford Reservation, just east of Dunham Road in Walton Hills.

    Look About Lodge � South Chagrin Reservation



    Welcome back the wildflowers of the forest as spring returns
    with a 2-mile hike. Take a scientific and artistic look at these
    ephemeral wonders. Look About Lodge is located at 37374 Miles Road
    in South Chagrin Reservation, between SOM Center Road/Route 91 and
    Chagrin River Road in Bentleyville. For more information, call

    Strawberry Picnic Area parking lot � North Chagrin
    Reservation



    One of the best locations in North Chagrin Reservation for
    native spring wildflowers is the Scenic Loop trail. This is a
    wonderful place to welcome the return of spring. Take a leisurely
    1.5- to 2-mile stroll through the forest in search of spring
    ephemerals. Strawberry Picnic Area is located off Buttermilk Falls
    Parkway, off the Strawberry Lane entrance of North Chagrin
    Reservation, off SOM Center Road/Route 91 in Willoughby Hills. For

    Wild about Wildflowers and Wildflower Apps



    Sunday, April 29 � 10 - 11 a.m.



    Rocky River Nature Center � Rocky River
    Reservation



    Join Naturalist Min Keung for a 1-mile walk to look for
    spectacular spring wildflowers. While on the walk, Keung will
    demonstrate how she uses her iPhone to identify wildflowers and
    other plants.  Rocky River Nature Center is located at 24000
    Valley Parkway in Rocky River Reservation, north of Cedar Point

    Wildflowers Along the Bridle Trail



    Sunday, April 29 � 1 - 3:30 p.m.



    A. B. Williams Memorial Woods parking lot � North Chagrin
    Reservation



    Spring wildflowers are back, but they're not here to stay. Take
    a 3-mile hike with Naturalist Mindy Murdock as she searches for
    what's blooming along the bridle trails. Hikers are encouraged to
    bring a camera to capture the beauty of the wildflowers before it's
    too late.  A.B. Williams Memorial Woods is located
    behind Forest Picnic Area, off Buttermilk Falls Parkway, off the
    Sunset Lane entrance of North Chagrin Reservation, off SOM Center
    Road/Route 91 in MayfieldVillage. 440-473-3370.



    School of the Wilds: Spring Wildflowers



    Sunday, April 29 � 2 - 5 p.m.



    Rocky River Nature Center � Rocky River
    Reservation



    Flowers in the spring emerge, then flower and get pollinated
    typically before the leaves come out on the trees. Join Naturalist
    Wendy Weirich for a closer look at the spring ephemerals. This
    program is part indoors and park hike. Rocky RiverNatureCenter is
    located at 24000 Valley Parkway in Rocky River Reservation, north
    of Cedar Point Road in North Olmsted. For more information, call

    Each spring, typically between mid-March and the end of April,
    several flower species begin to bloom throughout the �Emerald
    Necklace.� A spring wildflower trail can be found by Mastick Woods
    Picnic Area, as well as the Hauser Wildflower Garden at Rocky River
    Nature Center in Rocky River Reservation. One of the best locations
    in North Chagrin Reservation for native spring wildflowers is the
    Scenic Loop trail. Royalview Picnic Area in Mill Stream Run
    Reservation is famous for bluebells. Other common spring
    wildflowers like trillium, spring beauty, trout lily, and many more
    can be found in a number of areas throughout the Park District.
