    Take To The Water This Summer With Cleveland Metroparks Institute Of The Great Outdoors

    Enjoy water recreational activities that are both, recreational
    and educational through Cleveland Metroparks Institute of the Great
    Outdoors (IGO).



    Participants can enjoy the knowledge and expertise of seasoned
    instructors with all IGO courses and have fun at the same time. IGO
    helps people develop or enhance their outdoor skills, knowledge and
    environmental ethics.



    With the warmer summer weather, being around water is always a
    fun way to enjoy the season. IGO is currently offering the
    following paddling- and boating-related courses:



    Kayaking I: Introduction to Kayaking



    Saturday, July 14 � 3:30 - 6:30 p.m.
    -OR-



    Thursday, August 16 � 6 - 9 p.m.



    Wallace Lake � Mill Stream Run Reservation
    -OR-



    Tuesday, July 24 � 6 - 9 p.m.



    Baldwin Wallace University



    In this 1-day classroom/on-the-water course, learn basic skills
    and paddling strokes to kayak with confidence this season. Ages 14
    & over. There is a $35 fee (equipment included).



    Canoeing I: Canoeing Basics



    Sunday, July 15 � 4 - 7 p.m.



    Hinckley Lake � Hinckley
    Reservation



    Discover the pleasure of cruising in-land waters by canoe. This
    program includes all necessary canoeing equipment and covers
    canoeing basics, boating safety and proper boat control.
    Participants may be required to complete a capsize drill. Ages 14
    & over. There is a $35 fee (equipment included).



    Kayaking 1.5: Supplemental Skills



    Sunday, July 22 � 4 - 6 p.m. -OR-



    Tuesday, July 31. � 6:30 - 8:30 p.m
    -OR-



    Thursday, August 23 � 6:30 - 8:30 p.m



    Hinckley Lake � Hinckley
    Reservation



    This class is a continuation of the Kayaking I course. Anyone
    who has completed a Kayaking I class is invited to learn more
    advance paddling strokes, boat exits and rescue techniques. Ages 14
    & over. There is a $25 fee (equipment included).



    Kayaking 2: Flat Water Fundamentals



    Sunday, July 29 � noon - 6:00
    p.m.



    Hinckley Lake � Hinckley
    Reservation



    Combine Kayaking 1 and 1.5 in one day. Ages 14 & over. There
    is a $55 fee (equipment included).



    Canoeing 1.5: Supplemental Skills



    Saturday, August 11 � 10 a.m. -
    noon



    Hinckley Lake � Hinckley
    Reservation



    This special class is designed as a continuation of the Canoeing
    I course. Learn more advanced paddling strokes, capsize drills,
    rescue techniques and practice previously taught skills. Ages 16
    & over. There is a $25 fee (equipment included).



    Basic Sailing Course



    Monday, August 6 � 4 - 7 p.m. -AND- Tuesday
    & Wednesday, August 7 & 8 �
    9 a.m. - 5 p.m.



    Huntington Reservation

    Friday, September 14 � 4 - 7 p.m. -AND-
    Saturday & Sunday, September 15 & 16 �
    9 a.m. - 5
    p.m.



    Huntington Reservation



    This entry-level course to small boat sailing will consist of
    both, classroom and on-water instruction. Learn how to sail in
    pairs and solo in small 14-foot sailboats. Boats & safety
    equipment are provided, but be dressed to get wet, as there will be
    practice on righting a capsized boat. Ages 16 & over. There is
    a $40 fee (equipment included).



    IGO also offers equipment adaptation and assessment to make
    outdoor recreation opportunities available to all individuals,
    regardless of ability.
