The summer season is in full swing in the month of July. Take
advantage of the warm weather and longer daylight hours by
adventuring out on bird walks and other bird programs
throughout Cleveland Metroparks.
The free July bird walks and programs include:
Sunday Bird Walk
Sunday, July 1 � 8 - 10 a.m.
Wilson Mills Road parking lot � North Chagrin
Reservation
July brings fledglings into the mix of birds that are roosting
in North Chagrin Reservation. Adventure out on a 2-mile bird walk
and search out these new arrivals and the summer plumages that July
brings. Some binoculars are available to borrow. Wilson Mills Road
parking lot is located off Wilson Mills Road in North Chagrin
Reservation, just west of Chagrin River Road in Gates

Birds And Bugs

Garfield Park Nature Center � Garfield Park
Reservation
The forest, ponds and creeks of Garfield Park Reservation
provide an urban refuge for nearly 30 species of nesting birds.
Join Naturalist Jen Brumfield for an easy, 1-mile hike seeking out
orioles, kingbirds, grosbeaks and others. And search for different
species of multi-colored butterflies and dragonflies,
too. Binoculars are recommended.Garfield Park Nature Center is
located off Mill Creek Lane, off the Broadway Avenue entrance of
Garfield Park Reservation in Garfield Heights. For more

Center Park � West Creek Reservation
The forest, grasslands, and riparian corridor of West Creek
Reservation provide a refuge for nearly 50 species of nesting
birds, including spotted sandpiper, belted kingfisher, scarlet
tanager, and rose-breasted grosbeak. Join Naturalist Jen
Brumfield on a 1.5-mile hike and seek out songbirds and
multi-colored butterflies and dragonflies, too. Center Park is
located on Park Drive, adjacent to West Creek Reservation, off

MAPS Banding Programs
Saturday, July 14 � 7 - 11 a.m.
Lower 40 Loop Trail � Ohio & Erie Canal
Reservation
Catch, band and release migrant birds, such as gray catbirds and
yellow warblers, on their nesting grounds. The Monitoring Avian
Productivity and Survivorship Program (MAPS) is a volunteer bird
banding program. The comparison group study was last conducted
1998-2002 and now, 10 years later, it is being repeated. Birds are
more active in the early morning, so stopping by early is better
than later. Banding will be canceled if raining. Lower 40 Loop
Trail is located off the all purpose trail in Ohio & Erie Canal
Reservation. Park at CanalWay Center,located on Whittlesey Way, off
the East 49th Street entrance of Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation,
between Grant Avenue and Canal Road in CuyahogaHeights. For more

Meet a CanalWay Center staff member bright and early and hike
down to the Monitoring Avian Productivity and Survivorship Program
(MAPS) site. Visit with volunteer bird banders and ask questions.
Discover which birds are nesting in the Cuyahoga Valley this
summer. CanalWay Center is located on Whittlesey Way, off the East
49th Street entrance of Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation, between
