The road to health isn't always uphill. Take steps towards
better health and explore new trails while earning a 2012 Walking
Works hiking shield through Cleveland Metroparks Walking Works
    program.

With Cleveland Metroparks Walking Works program, participants
hike at least eight of 13 designated trails on their own from June
through October. After completing each walk, date the Walking Works
form. Complete at least eight walks and return the form to
Cleveland Metroparks to receive this year's Walking Works walking
stick shield. Walkers can display the shield on their own walking
sticks or purchase a Walking Works walking stick at any of the
    EarthWords Nature Shops.

Research shows walking leads to better health.Walking three to
five times a week helps improve cardiovascular fitness, increases
circulation, helps control weight, blood and cholesterol levels,
and improve an overall feeling of well-being. Research also shows
that increasing the number of calories burned by 2,000 a week can
    lead to a longer life.

Now Walking Works participants can feel better while discovering
the wonders of nature on 13 natural surface trails and all purpose
    trails.

This year, take an easy hike in Bedford, Big Creek, Bradley
Woods, Garfield Park, Mill Stream Run, and Rocky River
reservations. Moderate walkers can hit the trails in Euclid Creek,
Hinckley, Ohio & Erie Canal, and South Chagrin reservations.
Those looking for a difficult hike will appreciate the challenging
hikes in Brecksville and North Chagrin Center reservations.

For walkers who want to walk with others while learning about
the natural features of the trails, naturalist-led hikes along some
of the designated trails are available. Look for naturalist-led
Walking Works walks in the Emerald Necklace monthly
    publication or online at clevelandmetroparks.com.

For a list of the designated hikes and directions, and to
download the Walking Works form visit "http://www.clevelandmetroparks.com/">clevelandmetroparks.com.
Walking Works forms are also available at the three EarthWords
Nature Shop locations at CanalWay Center, North Chagrin Nature
Center and Rocky River Nature Center.
