On Thursday, June 14 at 10 a.m., Cleveland Metroparks Ranger
Honor Guard will dedicate a newly-installed nautical flag pole at
Huntington Reservation, above Huntington Beach.
The pole will proudly fly the following flags: American,
Cleveland Metroparks and Blue Wave.
We felt it was appropriate to have the dedication on Flag Day,
said Brian Zimmerman executive director of Cleveland Metroparks.
It is a day for all Americans to celebrate and show respect for
our flag and its proper display.
Cleveland Metroparks Ranger Honor Guard will perform the
ceremony. This is an honorable action the Honor Guard performs in
and around Cleveland Metroparks, remarked Gregory M. Loftus, chief
of rangers.
The Blue Wave flag signifies the Park District's certification
from The Clean Beaches Coalition based on a multi-tiered inspection
of Huntington Beach. This includes principles that insured
compliance with the highest standards in the categories of:
superior water quality, universal accessibility, commitment to
beneficial safety practices, habitat conservation, quality
information and education, excellence in service and maintenance,
and proactive erosion management. Huntington Beach is the
first beach on Lake Erie and the first in Ohio to meet these
rigorous standards.
The Ranger Honor Guard unit was formed in 2005. The Unit
of nine rangers represents Cleveland Metroparks at special
ceremonies. The Unit takes great pride in its image,
precision, exhibition and execution of ceremonial tactics in
honoring Cleveland Metroparks and Ohio's public safety members.
