It seems like everyone enjoys seeing the model trains, but all
the kid's love hearing the whistle blow and riding the kid's train
rides!
Train lovers young and old can experience the sights and sounds
of the railroad at the free, annual Cleveland Metroparks Train
Day event on Saturday, June 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at CanalWay
Center in Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation in Cuyahoga
Heights.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities throughout the day,
including model train exhibits featuring G-scale, HO-scale,
N-scale, S-scale, Legos, and more. Visit with
railroad-related organizations and vendors, take a guided trestle
hike, listen to a DJ playing railroad and summertime favorites,
kids can play in the kids depot play area with train toys and
videos, crafts and face painting, and more!
And, kids will be looking for the railroad crossing signs to buy
their train ticket ($1/person) and enjoy a ride on the M&M
Railroad kid's trackless train.
Event-goers can also stroll down the Hobo Trail to learn the
markings these American travelers used to communicate with other
hobos and even talk to a few hobos. Over 30 hobo markings
will be displayed along the trail. These markings were used
as sources of communication from one hobo to the next. While
strolling down the hobo trail, they can stop by the hobo camp and
enjoy the hobo hospitality, hear a few words of hobo wisdom, and
have Conrad the Conductor introduce you to some of the famous
hobo's of yesteryear, such as the cook Stone Soup Sally Huttner,
harmonica player Pete Moss, James Professor' Young - who all
the other hobos ask for advice, and Apple Annie Reynolds - who
always travels alone on the rails.
EarthWords Nature Shop will be selling unique train items, and
there are refreshments for sale, too.
The first 1,000 kids will receive a free train whistle, too!
CanalWay Center is located on Whittlesey Way, off the East
49th Street entrance of Ohio & Erie Canal
Reservation, between Grant Avenue and Canal Road in Cuyahoga
Heights - just off the I-77/Grant Avenue exit.
