With over 22,000 acres, Cleveland Metroparks needs all sorts of
equipment to keep the Park District operating.
Cleveland Metroparks invites everyone to come see some of the
equipment at the free Touch-A-Truck event on Sunday,
August 19 from noon to 4 p.m. at Strongsville Park Operations in
Mill Stream Run Reservation in Strongsville.
With over 30 pieces of equipment on-site, kids can enjoy
climbing on and in, and learning why each piece of equipment is
used. Some of the departments displaying equipment include: park
operations, specialty crews, golf, natural resources, park rangers,
and outdoor education.
Equipment on display includes:
Park Operations Department - Backhoe - used for various
tasks, including loading salt in the winter, making underground
repairs and landscaping in the summer. This unit can access
worksites without causing damage in developed areas.
Backhoes, like these, are out-in-force whenever storm damage
occurs.
Golf Construction Division - Caterpillar - rubber tracks
minimize turf damage when repairing or installing irrigation and/or
drainage or when reshaping sand traps, this machine expedites
capital projects.
Cleveland Metroparks Zoo - Mini Excavator - allows for
greater access to tight spaces with minimal impact when digging
trenches for repairs or creating foundation footers.
Kids can also enjoy playing in a huge sandbox with over two tons
of sand brought in from the golf division.
Bring empty aluminium cans for a Steam Roller
Demonstration! The cans will be rolled flat as a pancake at
1, 2 and 3 p.m. and donated to Cleveland Metroparks recycling
program.
EarthWords Nature Shop will also be selling merchandise, and
fuel up with refreshments available for sale.
Haywagons and shuttle buses will be available to and from the
additional parking areas.
