Cleveland Metroparks Rangers are partnering with AAA East
Central on a summer bike helmet awareness campaign. The Helmet
Smart campaign rewards children who wear their helmets while bike
riding in the Park District with a safety citation.
The citation packet includes a Parent-Child contract and
information on safe helmet sizing and uses. A coupon for zoo
admission is included, as well as a drawing for a bike giveaway
from AAA.
Rangers will issue the citations to children riding their bike
and wearing their helmet in any of the Park District's
reservations. The campaign runs through August 27.
The campaign also encourages parents to take an active role in
their children's safety by always encouraging them to wear bike
helmets when riding, and to wear helmets themselves, too.
Ranger Chief Greg Loftus explains, Cleveland Metroparks Rangers
welcome this opportunity to educate and inform youth and parents
about good bike riding habits. National statistics report that when
helmets are worn by a cyclist it has shown to reduce the risk of a
life-long brain or head injury by 85%.
Enjoy the summer weather, the wonderful trails and sights while
peddling your way safely through Cleveland Metroparks - part
of your life, naturally!
