This past weekend (July 28 and 29), the competition
was fierce at two of Cleveland Metroparks 18-hole golf courses,
with amateur golfers from the Greater Cleveland area battling for
the 36-hole Course Championship titles at Sleepy Hollow and Shawnee
Hills golf courses.
In addition to the title at the individual courses, golfers were
vying for the chance to qualify in the annual Greater Cleveland
Amateur Championship.
The Course Champions were held the previous weekend at Manakiki
and Big Met golf courses, and now the field is set for the Greater
Cleveland Amateur Championship. The champions and qualifiers
from the four Course Championships get the opportunity to compete
in the 54-hole Greater Cleveland Amateur Championship on August 10
thru 12 at Manakiki Golf Course in Willoughby Hills.
Along with Cleveland Metroparks course champions and qualifiers,
golfers can also earn an exemption through the Northern Ohio Golf
Association and the Akron District Golf Association to play in the
Amateur Championship. Winners and qualifiers of several past local
tournaments are also exempt, including Cleveland Metroparks 2011
Amateur Champions, the Northeast Ohio Amateur, the Summit County
Amateur, the ICPGA Open, and players ranked in the Top 10 from the
Player of the Year points list of the NOGA, CGA and the ADGA.
